This page represents a small beginning of the guesstimated 1200 plus lookouts that covered the Province of Quebec. Information is limited and difficult to obtain, so this page will be very slow in additional entries. Any and all contributions would be greatly appreciated. email me at [email protected] Thank you.

1929: "Travelling north on the Lake St. John Railway, the next tower built is on the east side of Lake Ecarte, on the 48th parallel, or very close to it, on the limits of the Quebec Pulp & Paper Corporation. A satisfactory range of vision can be had from this tower." (Annual Report of the Laurentian Forest Protective Association)
LAKE METAPEDIA
Timber Company
August 17, 1912: "A company has adopted the look-out tower as a means of detecting forest fires in the incipient stages. The tower is located on an elevation practically 2,300 feet above sea level, and 1,800 feet above the level of Lake Metapedia, which is close to the company's mill. The watchman on the tower has a good view of all the surrounding country for a radius of twenty miles. The protection thus obtained covers not only the limits of the company owning the tower but of the adjoining limits as well.
The look-out man is in telephone connection with the National Telephone Company, which runs through the limits. He is thus enabled, when he discovers a fire, to report immediately to the head office and men can be sent out at once to extinguish it. Very few fires thus secure a dangerous grip. Only once has it been necessary for the company to close the mill and send out all its employees.
The steel tower has a height of 50 feet from the ground so that the look-out man may be well above the tops of the trees." (The Ottawa Journal)
