ALGAR
November 1995: "During heavy fire activity in June, 3 steel lookout towers were evacuated and the towers later burned over. At Algar tower the heat was so intense that 20' lengths of aluminum pipe used for bracing and strengthening literally melted. Steel cross members were warped and twisted up to the 30-foot level. The legs, made of heavier steel, did not warp. The engine house was totally destroyed. The ground cabin, because of it's location, did not down, however, the plastic eavesthroughing and portions of the asphalt shingles melted, the metal siding warped and the paint blistered.
By mid July the tower had been repaired and the lookout returned to service." (Lookout Network - Vol. 6, Vol. 4)
