LIMESTONE CREEK
Clearwater County
July 7, 1966: "Forestry officials say a grizzly bear may have played a part in the death of a Rocky Mountain House youth.
Douglas Adams, 18, drowned in the Clearwater River.
He manned the Limestone Creek forestry lookout tower about 50 miles from Rocky Mountain House. The station is accessible by aircraft only.
Police believe the youth drowned while attempting to swim across the river.
'He did not appear lost as he entered the river at one of the few spots where it can be crossed,' forestry officials said.
'We found a fresh moose killed nearby and tracks from a large grizzly.'
The youth had no rifle and officials feel he might have been frightened into crossing the river. Rocky Mountain House is 50 miles west of Red Deer." (Saskatoon Star-Pheonix)

Ken Rogers, 49, and his two sons, Ken, 17, and James, 14, were mauled by a bear in Jasper Park Alta. Sunday.
Rogers and his sons were attacked while hiking toward Signal Mountain Lookout.
The three escaped and drove to an information booth from where they were taken to a hospital for treatment of slight skin punctures, scratches and abrasions.
In a telephone interview from Jasper Park, Rogers said he used himself as a decoy to lure the bear away from the boys.
'I thought by getting the bear to notice me, my sons would have a chance to get away,' he said.
The bear grabbed Rogers and wrestled him to the ground, mauling him and scratching and biting his back." (Lodi News-Sentinel - California)
