ALBERTA LOOKOUTS
SWEATHOUSE CREEK
.
January 1, 1952: "Under construction is a new tower at Sweathouse Creek, south of Sunset House." (Peace River Record Gazette)
August 4, 1955: "Cameron Codd, young Scotsman from the Sweathouse Creek Tower, located 64 miles south of High Prairie, was in town for a brief medical check-up on July 28, coming in by jeep over the muddy road.
He was strong in his praise of the co-operation of settlers and farmers in keeping down fires this season, as only a few small fires have been started and these quickly put out.
The tower is reached by a Forestry road which runs from Sunset House, 20 miles south, and the 60-foot steel tower overlooks the country as far as High Prairie.
Seven miles from the nearest human habitation. Mr. Codd declares he has everything from moles to grizzly bear in the animal line, but was especially thrilled recently, while sitting in his cabin, to see a mother moose and her twin calves, each about three or four feet high, come looking in the window.
She took her time inspecting the three-room cabin and the tower while he sat breathless for fear of scaring her away and the fact that she devoured 95% of the lettuce in his garden does not deter the towerman from hoping she will visit him again." (Peace River Record Gazette)
November 20, 1958: "Mr. and Mrs. Fred Arnett and Allan have returned to their farm here from Sweathouse fire tower." (Peace River Record Gazette)
March 26, 1959: "Fred Annett, who has been employed clearing the forestry road to Whitefish tower, finished on the 14th, then left for Grande Prairie to attend the course for tower men. After that he and Mrs. Annett and son will return to Sweathouse tower where he will be lookout man for the season." (Peace River Record Gazette)
