1921: "This is an 80 foot tower constructed in co-operation with the Geodetic Survey adjacent to the Chaplin Island Road between Wayerton and Newcastle. This tower commands a wide range of vision and will be of considerable value in forest fire direction in the future. Construction was completed in January 1922." "Telephone connection was completed between the Ashton Hill Lookout and the Chaplin Island Road telephone line." (Annual report of the Crown Land Department of the Province of New Brunswick)
1937: "100' Steel Tower erected at Ashton Hill, Northumberland Co." + "The old wooden tower on Ashton Hill, Northumberland County, was replaced with a modern galvanized steel Lookout Tower 100 feet in height supporting an octagonal glass enclosed cabin. The addition 15 feet in height over the old wooden tower will increase the range of this important Key Station of the Lookout Tower system of the Province. Four enrollees were used on this project after other projects had completed their work." (77th Annual Report of the Department of Lands and Mines)
