NEW BRUNSWICK LOOKOUTS
LAKETON
Kent County
1948: "A new 80 ft. galvanized steel lookout tower was erected over the Laketon Geodetic Station on the western side of the Chatham-Richibucto Highway just south of the Northumberland County line. The tower complete with observer's living quarters and short connecting telephone line to the circuits leading to Chatham exchange was completed during the summer. Although the tower is located in District No. 3 it may be operated by District No. 2 as it will supplement reports and readings by Ashton Hill and Blackville towers. This is the first tower to be erected in Kent County but in order to give increased protection to the forest lands in the county a second tower should be erected possibly on the head-waters of the Salmon River in the vicinity of Adamsville. Considerable reconnaissance will be necessary, however, to locate the best possible site as the area is comparatively flat with no high hills or prominent peaks."
