September 2, 1969: "Bears have attacked five persons, including three members of a San Francisco family, in the past few days, it was reported in the Yukon Territory.
Ken Rogers, 49, and his two sons, Ken, 17, and James, 14, were mauled by a bear in Jasper Park Alta. Sunday.
Rogers and his sons were attacked while hiking toward Signal Mountain Lookout.
The three escaped and drove to an information booth from where they were taken to a hospital for treatment of slight skin punctures, scratches and abrasions.
In a telephone interview from Jasper Park, Rogers said he used himself as a decoy to lure the bear away from the boys.
'I thought by getting the bear to notice me, my sons would have a chance to get away,' he said.
The bear grabbed Rogers and wrestled him to the ground, mauling him and scratching and biting his back." (Lodi News-Sentinel - California)
